I Found It. The Answer to My Prayers.

You guys.

I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but I’ve been in a BEAST of a reading slump. I had every intention of spending my downtime on vacation just devouring books, but that didn’t work out so well.

I’ve been trying for WEEKS to figure out something I can read that would consume me for a few days & re-ignite that reading fire (figuratively speaking, of course. Real fire is super bad for books, y’all), but nothing was clicking. And these were GOOD freaking books I was trying to read – namely, Ready Player One. I just couldn’t do it and the guilt level was off the charts. I know I shouldn’t feel guilty about it, I mean – everyone has reading slumps, right?  But it’s really been wearing on me. I feel like a different person when I’m enveloped in a story.

Well, my prayers have been answered with the release of my most highly anticipated book of 2015: The Heir is in hand & I’m trying to convince myself that reading it while at work is an irresponsible thing to do. I can’t wait to start it & I can feel that fog lifting from around me.

It’s a magical feeling. This is going to fix everything. Don’t let me down, Kiera Cass!

I think this might be fixing my writing slump, as well. So I’ll be back later today with a little somethin somethin.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Girl At Midnight

New WoW

Happy Wednesday, friends! It’s been a while since I participated in a link-up, so I thought I’d jump back onboard & tell you about another book I can’t wait for the release of!

The Girl At Midnight by Melissa Grey

I’m really excited for this debut novel from Melissa Grey. I’ve seen it pop up on some of my favorite book blogs & booktubes, and it has always captured my attention. I mean, even the cover alone – how gorgeous is that?! And then you read the summary and it’s all over – anticipation level: 11/10. Luckily I only have to suffer for another week, since its release date is NEXT TUESDAY! And with my birthday on Thursday, I’m thinking it’s not gonna be hard to justify the purchase of a new book ❤

“Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she’s ever known.

Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she’s fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it’s time to act.

Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it’s how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.

But some jobs aren’t as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.”

Waiting on Wednesday: P.S. I Still Love You

New WoW“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week, my pick is P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han, which will be released on May 26, 2015.

P.S. I Still Love You on Goodreads

I’m in the middle of reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before right now, and it’s been a really cute, fun read. It’s quirky and a little painfully awkward. It’s easy to relate to. I made the mistake of reading the synopsis for the sequel (SPOILERS), so I kind of know what’s going to happen, but that doesn’t really bother me because it’s a little predictable, anyway.  I still really enjoy the characters and the general premise of the book, which is a nice departure from the excessive YA Dystopian/Fantasy I’ve been reading lately.

SINCE the synopsis for the sequel has spoilers, I refuse to post it here.; you can click the link above if you want to read it. But I will put the synopsis for the first book for anyone who may be interested.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Waiting on Wednesday: ACOTAR

New WoW

Today’s Waiting on Wednesday is a book I only heard of recently, but has been getting excellent reviews from anybody with an ARC.

COTAR

A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

Perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore and George R. R. Martin, this first book in a sexy and action-packed new series is impossible to put down!

I REALLY want to read this book, and I’m just ticking away the days until it’s released (May 5!).

Until then, I did pick up Throne of Glass at B&N last night, which I’m really excited to get started on – after I get through To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before… and maybe a couple others. We’ll see how I’m feeling by then.

Waiting on Wednesday: Super Anxiously Awaiting….

New WoW

Today I’m participating in the Waiting on Wednesday linkup, hosted by Breaking the Spine.  In this weekly event, we talk about upcoming releases we are anxiously awaiting! This is my first time participating in the event, but I am holding out for SO many titles this year that I feel like I’m going to burst.  So this’ll probably become a regular thing.

My #1 most anticipated release for 2015 is – The Heir by Kiera Cass

The-Heir_612x925

The Selection series is quite possibly my favorite YA series since Harry Potter (neck-&-neck with Miss Peregrine right now). I’m not exaggerating. If you like Hunger Games, Cinderella, and the Bachelor, you must read these books. They’re pretty girly, but still have plenty of action. I devoured the first two when I discovered them & anxiously awaited The One, which was meant to conclude the series. I was ECSTATIC when Kiera Cass announced that she had signed another book deal to continue the series in a  new generation. I can’t wait to see what the new characters are like & how things have changed in Illéa since the conclusion of The One!

The synopsis of this book kind of contains spoilers for the rest of the series, but here is the synopsis for The Selection for anyone who might be interested!

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself–and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Until Next Time ❤
